Mobile Anesthesiology: What to Look For

Mobile anesthesiology is the practice of an anesthesiologist coming to the aid of a dentist or other practitioner for the sole purpose of providing anesthesia for a patient.

This would be done directly before the procedure, and most likely to induce sleep so the dentist can work efficiently on the patient to complete the procedure.

Both dentist and patient are typically happier when deep sedation is needed and is provided by a mobile anesthesiologist. This is partly because new mobile anesthesia methods such as Mobile SAF-D are short acting and the patient can typically leave the office 20 minutes after the procedure is completed. Also, the dentist is able to focus on the dental procedure and not the dosage of anesthesia administered to the patient.

Cost Efficient: Anesthesiology Costs Explained
Mobile anesthesia has gone down in costs in recent years, but if you also consider the other cost saving benefits, mobile anesthesia makes a lot of sense. It provides deep anesthesia methods without procurement and maintenance of equipment, drugs and there is neither staff training necessary nor staff certification needed. If mobile anesthesia is something that is only required occasionally, such as is typically the case in a dentist's office, this is certainly a cost efficient way to go and should be considered as an addition to anesthesia methods already used.

There are specific things you should expect from a mobile anesthesiologist and these are explained and listed below:

Board-Certified: Things to Expect from a Mobile Anesthesiologist
The mobile anesthesiologist should be board-certified and should be able to visit the office at your preferred time. They should also come with all the proper procedural equipment.

This would include:
  • Anesthesia Drugs
  • Equipment
  • Emergency Supplies
These things should all be provided by the mobile anesthesiologist, and you should make sure the mobile anesthesiologist has these items in hand before arriving at your office. They should also adhere to all ASA standards and guidelines regarding outpatient anesthesia.

Furthermore, the mobile anesthesiologist should be willing to provide past documented work done at other comparable medical offices, and should also give you the names and contact numbers of other dentists or medical professionals you can call who have used the anesthesiologists services before. You will probably find that once you find a mobile anesthesiologist you trust, you will continue to go to that anesthesiologist for all of your deep sedation needs.

Other than that, it is a good idea to do your research, and shop around for the right mobile anesthesiologist for your dental office needs.
